Off Property Activities

The Hawke's Bay region offers a wealth of exciting excursions...

We invite you to explore everything the beautiful Hawke's Bay has to offer.

Hawke’s Bay offers a wide range of fishing opportunities. The bay's major rivers, the Mohaka, Tutkuir, Ngaruroro, Waipawa and Tukituki, are populated with wild brown and rainbow trout.  An experienced local guide with a four wheel drive vehicle will pick you up at the Lodge and take you to one of more than 20 different rivers or lakes.  Alternatively, we can arrange a true wilderness fishing experience utilizing a helicopter, to take you to remote rivers and streams that abound with trout.  The fly fishing trip will be tailored to your individual needs and skill level, giving you access to the finest fishing New Zealand has to offer.

Heli Air Hawke’s Bay offers 2 scenic flights over Hawke’s Bay, lasting approximately 30 minutes each.  Choose between a tour of the stunning coastline surrounding Cape Kidnappers or fly over Hawke’s Bay’s picturesque vineyards, orchards and farmland.

The Maori people of New Zealand possess a proud and powerful heritage. Experience this culture first-hand with a visit to a local Marae (Maori meeting house). Take part in a Powhiri (Maori welcome) and drink in the words of the tribal elders as they share the captivating legends of their heritage. Half and full-day tours are available.

Wine Tours
Hawke’s Bay is New Zealand’s second largest wine growing region and home to over 70 wineries. Cape Kidnappers can arrange a wide variety of wine experiences from guided tours to wine appreciation classes in our own wine cellar.

Tours range from short excursions allowing visitors to get a taste for the local flavours, to full day experiences which will take you into the cellars of some of New Zealand’s top wineries; with time to enjoy lunch at one of several highly recommended winery restaurants.

Some of the most sought-after wines in the region are from Te Awa Winery in the Gimblett Gravels Wine Region.  As a guest of Cape Kidnappers we can arrange a personal tour of the cellars with a private tasting and three course lunch.  This is a fantastic way to learn about the winemaking process in a relaxed and friendly environment.  Tours are half or full day and can be designed to suit your requirements.

Epicurean Tours
Hawke's Bay enjoys a Mediterranean climate which provides a rich bounty from the land, sea and rivers.  Food tours will give you the opportunity to meet the local producers of cheese, olive oils and orchard fruit and taste their products.  Hawke’s Bay is privileged to host two of the most popular markets in the country.  Be sure to visit Black Barn Grower’s Market every Saturday morning over summer and the Hawke’s Bay Farmer’s Market every Sunday morning.

Cape Kidnappers' stretch of river is suitable for kayakers of varying skill levels.  Experience an easy drift down a scenic river with warm water, great swimming holes, an abundance of bird life and rural scenery.  Enjoy a picnic lunch on the riverbank.

Put on your life vest and experience a day of white water rafting on the Mohaka River. On the gentle stretches between rapids, take in the breathtaking scenery.  A day designed for guests with a sense of adventure - rapids range from relatively gentle, to steep, exhilarating drops.

The Hawke’s Bay coastline offers plenty of opportunities to partake in water activities. Ocean Beach and Waimarama provide unspoiled scenery and excellent swimming. Our chefs can provide a delicious picnic lunch.
